London, Jul 2.- The All England Club, which organizes the Wimbledon tournament annually, will donate 200 strawberry baskets every day to the NHS (UK health service) workers.
This Wimbledon donation is part of the tournament contributions to help the recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and “a small gesture by the dedicated service of the NHS during what would have been the celebration of the tournament.
Strawberries with cream are one of the most classic gastronomic claims of the third Grand Slam of the season. Wimbledon should have opened its doors these days, but the coronavirus pandemic forced to cancel the 2020 edition.
In total, more than 26,000 strawberries, which would have been used in the 2020 tournament, will be delivered to the NHS.
All England Club chief executive Richard Lewis said that since the tournament was canceled they have been focused on how to help the community.
“Our workers have been particularly willing to do what they can and many of them have volunteered for this task,” said Lewis.
