Bogota, Jan 10. – Argentine striker Germán Cano, top scorer of the 2018 Clausura tournament in Colombia with 20 goals, leaves Independiente Medellín after failing to reach an agreement to renew it, the club said Thursday.
“Germán Ezequiel Cano did not accept the proposal presented by the institution and on our part we can only recognize his effort on the field, his commitment, affection for the fans and our city,” said Independiente Medellin in a statement.
The club said that on Thursday a negotiation was closed seeking to renew the Cano contract for two more years, in which “both parties delivered all their disposition” after the team will make “economic efforts” and have the disposition of the player .
The 31-year-old striker finished the second leg for the Colombian club, which he came up with as reinforcement for the first half of last year.
In 2018, Cano scored 34 goals, 20 of them in the Clausura, and beat the record of 19 that Miguel Borja won with the Cortuluá in the 2016 championship.
That is the biggest brand since the short championships were implemented in Colombia in 2002.
